Private Label Engine Oil: Building Your Own Brand

What is involved in launching your own lubricants line — packaging, labels, grades and order planning.

A private label oil line lets a distributor own the brand relationship instead of reselling someone else's. Margins are typically better and the customer returns to you rather than to a brand name.

Decisions to make early: bottle sizes, bottle shape, label design, viscosity grades and which specifications you want to communicate on the label.

Plan quantities per grade rather than per brand. Most markets sell a small number of grades in high volume, with specialty grades moving much more slowly.

Coolant, gear oil, transmission fluid and grease are natural extensions once the engine oil line is established.
